This football jersey inspired garment is dedicated to the 21 Coptic Christians who were Martyred in Libya in 2015, and later canonized as Saints in the Catholic and Orthodox Church in 2019. Featured on the center back is Matthew, of Ghana.. one of the 21.
I chose to feature him in particular because what many do not know is that Matthew, was not a Christian. Matthew, was caught up in the kidnapping because he worked with the others who were captured. When ISIS learned of this they had no other reason to keep him because they only wanted Christians. They tried to release Matthew… and Mathew said,
“No, I am one of them… Their God, is my God.”
The unwavering conviction of the 20 Christians that never denied Jesus Christ, convicted Matthew to such a profound degree that he willingly died along side his new Brothers.. This is true love; this is sacrifice, and this is what we wish to exhibit at LAROCHELLE.
